Around the Farm
A walk around the farm and a few of the activities ongoing. From the fields with the view of Lake Mugasera, which at times has been our only route to reach the farm. To a look at a few of our dairy cows, happly grazing a pasture of Biological Nitrate Inhibiting fodder grasses. An ongoing study/demonstration. To Fiston, who is helping off-site farmers improve maize production prodction, work done in conjunction with a PhD student. On to the children's library built on the farm in conjunction with NGO Rural Community Solutions to broaden the learning opportunities for children in the community. Finally to the work being done on post harvest handling of maize. This is work in conjunction with a group of farmers. The first picture, is of our General Manager, Delice, along with craftsman who has the unlikely name ofFidel Castro. They are working on a maize dryer. The design is original but borrowed heavily from a design used on rice in Bangladesh, and the project relies only on materials available locally to ensure that it can be duplicated. It will be tried along with other drying options in February/March of 2025.
